A two-year program teaching screenwriting, producing, directing, podcasting and editing skills to empower Indigenous people to tell their stories.

Year One

Year Two

The first year is dedicated to preproduction. Students will work on developing their original short-scripted and documentary film ideas. Students will learn the art of screenwriting, storyboarding, preliminary interviews and the business/logistics of film production including hiring their crew, budgeting, location scouting and working with department heads to plan out everything needed for production the following year. During this first year, Students will also be given the opportunity to crew up and gain experience on set and proficiency with both gear and editing software.

Our second year builds on our student's skills as we go into the production and post-production phase of their scripted short and documentary films. Once students have sorted out their logistics they will collectively crew up for each other and shoot their short films. After which they will immediately go into post-production sorting through their dailies and assessing if there is a need for any pick-ups to complete their short films for our Filum Fest in the Spring. Students will also have the opportunity to continue developing other original film concepts to take away and pitch after leaving the program

Through this program I was able to learn techniques to tell stories through an Indigenous lens... I feel that this program gave me a sturdy ground to enter the Indigenous screen sector with confidence.
